Name: Dorothea Tanning
Year of Birth & Death: (1912 - ?)
Biography: She enrolled at the Chicago Academy of Arts at the age of twenty, but only stayed there a short time. In New York, she observed the exhibition Fantastic Art, Dada, Surrealism in 1936, and this inspired her to become a painter. She met Max Ernst in 1942 in New York, and her first exhibition was at the Julien Levy Gallery there in 1944. She and Max Ernst were married in 1946 and moved to Sedona, Arizona. They moved to Huismes in Touraine in 1955. He painting began to include iridescent mists. Eperidument (1960) was one of these paintings and is considered one of the best of this style.
