Year of Birth & Death: (1884 – 1962)
Biography: Bachelard was a writer and philosopher by trade. He wrote a series of works on the relationship between each of the four elements of matter and the imagination. He used his theory of open rationalism to justify Surrealism. One of his best known works is "La Formation de l’espirit scientifique", a psychoanalytical look at rational thinking. Bachelard has been quoted by many of the Surrealists, including Andre Breton, and Hans Bellmer even penciled a portrait of him.
